 A member of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) who, according to available information, played an effective role in suppressing protests in Mahabad in the past months, was killed by unknown armed men.


 According to the report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on the evening of Friday, March 17, 2023, Anwar Azizi, a senior member of the IRGC in the region and the commander of Basij forces in Gog Tepe base in Mahabad, was killed by unknown armed men in his home.

 According to an informed source, Anwar Azizi, a resident of Tashekand village in the Shamat area of ​​Mahabad and a resident of Mahabad city (Fajr Apartments), was hit by 12 bullets.

 So far, the Iranian state media has not reacted to this issue and no party or group has taken responsibility for this attack.

 It is worth mentioning that Anwar Azizi was always introduced by eyewitnesses as one of the field commanders during the suppression and killing of the people of Mahabad.  During the revolutionary uprising in Mahabad, at least 13 citizens were killed by direct fire from government forces, hundreds of citizens were injured, and more than a few hundred people were kidnapped and tortured by government forces.
