Saeed Garavand, Samad Garavand, and Shahab Mansourinesb Garavand, all convicted of drug trafficking offenses, were executed at Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj.
According to a report received by the Hangaw Organization for Human Rights, on the early morning of Sunday, May 20, 2023, the death sentences of Saeed Garavand, Samad Garavand, and Shahab Mansourinesb Garavand, residents of Kouhdasht, were carried out at Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj. Following the execution, Hussein Garavand, Shahab's brother, was returned to his cell.
These three prisoners had received death sentences five years ago for their involvement in drug trafficking charges, as determined by the judicial authorities. In preparation for the execution, they were transferred to solitary cells yesterday.
Yesterday, upon learning about the transfer of the three prisoners to solitary confinement, their families and a group of protesters against capital punishment gathered outside Ghezel Hesar Prison, as reported by Hangaw. The situation escalated when government security forces intervened, employing tear gas and batons, leading to a violent dispersal of the gathering. Over ten individuals, including several women, sustained injuries to their heads, faces, limbs, and abdomens.
