Turkish security forces have arrested a Kurdish political refugee couple, Rashad Mohammadi and Azhin Fahmideh Hosseini, raising concerns about their potential deportation to Iran.
According to reports received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Rashad Mohammadi, a Kurdish political activist from Kamiyaran, and his wife, Azhin Fahmideh Hosseini, from Sarvabad county in Marivan city, were apprehended by Turkish police in recent days. They have since been taken to a camp near the city of Canakkale, with no further information available about their current status.
Azhin Fahmideh Hosseini, aged 30, and Rashad Mohammadi, aged 34, have been actively involved in political activities in the Kurdistan region of Iraq for several years. They were compelled to flee the region due to persistent pressure from Iranian security forces, seeking refuge in a safer country with the ultimate aim of reaching Europe.
The Hengaw Organization for Human Rights expresses deep concern over the potential deportation of this Kurdish couple to Iran, where they may face torture and other inhumane treatment at the hands of the security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Urgent attention is called for from human rights organizations and international bodies, especially those dedicated to supporting refugees.
