Arrest of Two More Kurdish Individuals in Relation to Nawroz Celebrations in Iran

Two Kurdish individuals identified as Omid and Farzin Rostami, from Miandoab, west Azerbaijan province (Urmia), have been detained by the security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran since mid-April 2024, reportedly due to their participation in special Nawroz ceremonies. They remain in custody without clear charges.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Omid Rostami, 30, and Farzin Rostami, 22, both residents of Askar Abad village in the central district of Miandoab, have spent the past 27 days in detention.

A trusted source indicated that the arrest of these individuals was related to their preparation for and participation in Nawroz celebrations.

Omid and Farzin Rostami were detained on Sunday, April 21, 2024, by the forces of the intelligence department and were subsequently transferred to Miandoab Central Prison.
