Detention of Two More Kurdish Individuals in Relation to Ebrahim Raisi's Death

Ashkan Esmaeilnezhad and Zana Hassanzadeh, two Kurdish individuals from Bukan, west Azerbaijan province (Urmia), have been arrested by the security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran for posting content on social media regarding the death of President Ebrahim Raisi.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, Ashkan Esmaeilnejad from the village of Qajer, a suburb of Bukan, was detained by the Intelligence Department after being summoned.

Concurrently, forces from the Intelligence Office raided the private residence of Zana Hassanzadeh in Bukan. Hassanzadeh was arrested violently and transferred to an unknown location without any judicial warrant.

According to trusted sources, the arrests of these individuals were carried out due to their posts regarding the death of Ebrahim Raisi.

Efforts by their families to obtain information about their legal status and conditions of detention have been so far unsuccessful.
