Bukan: Ahmad Hassanzadeh and Solmaz Hassanzadeh, Family Members of Slain Protestor, Arrested

Ahmad Hassanzadeh and his daughter, Solmaz Hassanzadeh, family members of the slain protester, were violently arrested and taken to an undisclosed location by Iranian Intelligence forces on the occasion of Mohammad Hassanzadeh's birthday, one of the victims of the "Women, Life, Freedom" movement.

According to the report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, at noon on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, Iranian Intelligence forces in Bukan city, West Azerbaijan (Urmia) province, raided the family home of 57-year-old Ahmad Hassanzadeh, the father of a slain protester from the "Women, Life, Freedom" movement. They arrested him along with his 30-year-old daughter, Solmaz Hassanzadeh.

Hengaw has learned that today is Mohammad Hassanzadeh's birthday, and his family was preparing to commemorate their deceased son.
According to Hengaw's sources, Iranian Intelligence forces stormed the family's home without presenting any judicial warrant. During the arrest, they severely beat Mr. Hassanzadeh and his daughter Solmaz, and also subjected Mr. Hassanzadeh's wife to severe physical abuse.

To date, detailed information regarding the reasons for the arrest, the charges, and the fate and whereabouts of these two family members of the slain protester has not been disclosed.

Ahmad Hassanzadeh along with Solmaz were also arrested on September 5, 2023. Solmaz Hassanzadeh was arrested on the evening of Wednesday, September 27, 2023, along with three of her friends on the way from Bukan to Saqqez.

On the evening of Wednesday, November 16, 2022, during public protests in Bukan, Mohammad Hassanzadeh was killed while attempting to rescue a girl kidnapped by repressive Iranian government forces. He sustained multiple stab wounds and was fatally shot in the chest and heart by these forces.
