Suleiman Qader Galwan, brother of Kurdish protester killed in 2022, arrested again in Oshnavieh

Suleiman Qader Galwan, the brother of Abdulsalam Qader Galwan, who was killed during the Jin, Jiyan, Azadi (Woman, Life, Freedom) uprising, has once again been arrested by security forces of the Islamic Republic in the city of Oshnavieh (Shno).

According to information received by Hengaw, on Monday, June 23, 2025, Suleiman Qader Galwan — a resident of Oshnavieh and a member of the city’s justice-seeking families — was taken into custody by security forces.

Hengaw has learned that after gaining access to his mobile phone, the authorities posted state propaganda videos on his personal social media accounts without his consent.

No clear information has been made available regarding the reasons for his arrest or the charges brought against him.

Suleiman had previously been arrested on Thursday, March 27, 2025, after responding to a summons from the Intelligence Office in Oshnavieh. He was later released.

In an earlier incident on July 9, 2023, agents from the Oshnavieh Intelligence Office violently arrested and physically assaulted Suleiman Qader Galwan.

His brother, Abdulsalam Qader Galwan, was shot by government forces on September 21, 2022 during the Jin, Jiyan, Azadi protests. He died on Monday, September 26, 2022 at Khomeini Hospital in Urmia due to injuries sustained from live ammunition.
