Hengaw: Tuesday, July 30, 2024
Ali Rezaei, a resident of Tehran who was arrested during the "Woman, Life, Freedom" movement while he was under eighteen years of age, has been sentenced by the Iranian Judiciary to two years of imprisonment.
According to a report received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Ali Rezaei, a resident of Tehran, was sentenced to two years of imprisonment by Branch 28 of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Court of this city for the charges of "assembly and collusion" and "assault and battery." He had previously been acquitted of the charge of "moharebeh" (enmity against God).
Ali Rezaei's lawyer, Ali Shafakhah, emphasized in an interview that his client was under eighteen years old at the time of the "alleged crime," adding that the Supreme Court considered the Revolutionary Court, rather than the Juvenile Court, as competent to handle his case.
The lawyer stressed that "the legislators' intention from the full 18 years is that if the individual was 18 years and 364 days old at the time of committing the crime, they have not yet completed 18 years."
Ali Rezaei was arrested on December 4, 2022, during the "Woman, Life, Freedom" movement in Tehran and transferred to Ward 209 of Evin Prison, known as the detention center of the Ministry of Intelligence. After one year of detention, he was temporarily released on bail.
