Iran sentences jailed teacher Abolfazl Khoran to one more year and 74 lashes

Hengaw – Sunday, August 10, 2025
Abolfazl Khoran, a teacher from Arak currently serving a previous sentence in the city’s central prison, has been handed an additional sentence of one year in prison and 74 lashes by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Branch 105 of the Second Criminal Court in Arak convicted Khoran of “disrupting prison order” and sentenced him to one year of discretionary imprisonment and 74 lashes.
Last year, the Iranian judiciary sentenced Khoran to three years and one day in prison for “insulting the sacred” and, by decision of the Disciplinary Board, imposed a one-year suspension from his teaching position.
The charges stemmed from his organization of a ceremony on the day of Tasua at the grave of Mehrshad Shahidi, one of the victims of the “Women, Life, Freedom” (Jin, Jian, Azadi) movement.
On Tuesday, January 21, 2025, Khoran was arrested to serve his three-year-and-one-day sentence and transferred to Arak Central Prison.
