Sanandaj: Hasan Amini, Family Member of a Slain Kurdish Protester, Arrested to Serve the Prison Sentence

Hassan Amini, the brother of Mohammad Amini, one of the slain protesters of the "Women, Life, Freedom" movement in Sanandaj, Kurdistan, Province, who was previously sentenced to prison and flogging, was arrested and taken to prison to serve his sentence.

According to the report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Sunday, July 21, 2024, Hassan Amini, a Kurdish man from Sanandaj and a member of the slain protestor's family, was arrested after being summoned to the Court of Execution of Sentences in Sanandaj. He was subsequently transferred to the city's Central Prison to serve his sentence.

In July 2023, he was sentenced to six and a half months in prison and 40 lashes by Branch 101 of the Criminal Court in Bukan for "disturbing public order."


On the evening of Friday, June 9, 2024, Hassan Amini, along with a group of families of slain protestors from Sanandaj, Divandarreh, and Dehgolan, was arrested by Iranian government forces while returning from a commemoration ceremony for the victims of the movement in the cities of Saqqez and Bukan. He was subsequently taken to Bukan Central Prison.
He was finally released from Bukan prison by posting bail on Friday, June 16, 2024.

It should be noted that Hassan Amini was denied access to a designated lawyer, meeting with his family, and other basic rights during his detention.

Hassan Amini's brother, Mohammad Amini, a resident of the Taqtqan neighborhood in Sanandaj, was killed on October 8, 2022, during the “Women, Life, Freedom" movement in this city by direct fire from the Iranian government forces.
