Hengaw: Sunday, April 13, 2025
Safa Aeili, the maternal uncle of Jina Amini, has been arrested by agents of Intelligence Ministry in Saqqez and transferred to prison without prior notice for the enforcement of a prison sentence.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on the evening of Friday, April 11, 2025, Safa Aeili, 31, was detained by intelligence officers and taken to Saqqez Central Prison.
A source close to the family told Hengaw that his car was stopped by intelligence agents while he was with his wife, and he was arrested on the spot. Aeili had received no formal notice or court summons prior to his arrest. A few hours later, he informed his family via a phone call that he had been transferred to prison to begin serving his sentence.
Aeili had previously been sentenced to 10 months in prison by the Saqqez Revolutionary Court after returning to Iran from Germany, where he had sought asylum the previous summer. The sentence was upheld without changes by Branch 16 of the Kurdistan Province Appeals Court, presided over by Judge Karami.
He had also been arrested once before, on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, by intelligence forces in Saqqez. He was later released on October 17, 2023, on bail set at 1.2 billion tomans, pending trial.
In February 2024, Branch 1 of the Saqqez Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Javad Mostafaei, sentenced Safa Aeili to three years, six months, and one day for “assembly and collusion against national security,” seven months and sixteen days for “propaganda against the regime,” and one year and one day for “insulting Ali Khamenei.”
He was sentenced to a total of 5 years, 4 months, and 17 days of discretionary imprisonment.
