Maryam Derisi Summoned and Arrested to Serve Prison Sentence

Maryam Derisi, a student from Kazeroon, Fars Province, and an opponent of compulsory hijab, was arrested and transferred to Adelabad Prison in Shiraz to serve her one-year prison sentence after being summoned and appearing at the Criminal Enforcement Office of the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office of this city.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Saturday, August 3, 2024, Maryam Derisi, a master's degree student at Saveh University and a resident of Kazeroon, was arrested to serve her one-year prison sentence and transferred to Adelabad Prison in Shiraz.

This citizen was sentenced on March 3, 2023, by Branch 102 of the Kazeroon Revolutionary Court to one year in prison for charges of "propaganda against the regime" and "removal of hijab," while she was still under electronic   ankle tag monitoring for a previous case.

Maryam Derisi was previously arrested by security forces in Shiraz on October 15, 2022, and released on bail on November 2 of the same year. In December, she was sentenced by Branches 102 and 103 of the Kazeroon Revolutionary Court to one year in prison and 74 lashes for "disturbing public order" and "removal of hijab," and to three years in prison for "insulting Khamenei" and "propaganda against the regime." This sentence was reduced to 22 months and 17 days in prison by the Court of Appeal, and according to the law on the aggregation of sentences, the most severe punishment of 15 months in prison was enforceable.

After serving about nine months of this sentence, this citizen was released from prison under electronic monitoring on February 5, 2023.
