Piranshahr: Kurdish Activist, Soraya Gheytaran Arrested to Serve Prison Sentence

Soraya Gheytaran, a Kurdish women's rights activist from Piranshahr, who was arrested last year and later sentenced to 9 months of imprisonment, has been arrested to serve her sentence and transferred to the Central Prison of Urmia.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Saturday, August 3, 2024, Soraya Gheytaran, a Kurdish woman from the village of "Kani Mala" in Piranshahr, West Azerbaijan (Urmia) province, was summoned to the Enforcement Office of Piranshahr, where she was arrested and transferred to the women’s ward of the Central Prison of Urmia to serve her 9-month sentence.
It is worth noting that Soraya Gheytaran was sentenced to 9 months of imprisonment by Branch 1 of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Court in Mahabad, presided over by Judge Sajjad Dousti, on charges of "collaborating with the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan".
Soraya Gheytaran was violently arrested on Monday, June 26, 2023, during a raid by Iranian intelligence forces on her parents' home. She was temporarily released on bail from the Central Prison of Urmia on July 16, 2023, after 20 days of detention.
