Death Sentence of Four Prisoners, Including a Kurdish Man and an Afghan National, Carried Out in Ghezel Hesar Prison

The death sentences of four prisoners, including a Kurdish man and an Afghan national, were executed in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj city. These individuals had previously been sentenced to death for crimes related to drugs and homicide.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the executions took place at dawn on Monday, August 12, 2024. The prisoners executed included Saeed Niazi, a native of Borujerd in Lorestan province; Behrouz Vafaei, a resident of Tehran; and an Afghan national whose identity is still under investigation.

Additionally, the death sentence of Nasser Shafi'ei, 37 years old Kurdish man from the village of "Nabi Kand" in Takab city and a resident of Tehran, was also carried out. Sharifi had been previously arrested and sentenced to death for the homicide.

Saeed Niazi was arrested four years ago, while the other two prisoners were arrested on different dates and subsequently sentenced to death by the judicial system of the Islamic Republic of Iran on charges related to drug crimes.

As of the time of publishing this article, the executions of these prisoners have not been reported in government media, particularly those closely associated with the judiciary.
