Kurdish Man, Samad Shabouei Summoned and Arrested by Iranian Security Forces

A Kurdish man named Samad Shabouei, a member of a family seeking justice and previously detained, was re-arrested after being summoned to the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Court in Urmia. Following his court appearance, he was transferred to the city's central prison.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Monday, August 12, 2024, 39-year-old Samad Shabouei, a resident of "Shavaneh" village in the Oshnavieh, West Azerbaijan (Urmia) province, was arrested after being summoned and appearing at the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Court in Urmia. He was then transferred to the central prison of this city.

This individual had previously been released from Urmia prison on March 12, 2024, after enduring 204 days of detention by posting bail of three billion tomans, pending the completion of legal proceedings.

It is worth mentioning that Samad Shabouei was previously arrested on August 21, 2023, after being summoned by the Iranian Intelligence Office in Oshanvieh. During his detention, he was denied access to a chosen lawyer.

Furthermore, it is notable that Siamand Shabouei, Samad Shabouei’s brother and a member of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan, was assassinated on July 11, 2023, in the city of Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
