Motalleb Ahmadian, a Kurdish political prisoner from Baneh currently held in Tehran's Evin Prison, is now spending the 14th year of his 30-year sentence. Despite needing medical treatment, he has been denied access to care outside the prison and has not been sent to a hospital.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Human Organization for Human Rights, Motalleb Ahmadian, a 39-year-old Kurdish political prisoner from Baneh, urgently requires medical attention. After undergoing intestinal surgery, he was returned to prison, where the surgery site became infected. He subsequently developed abdominal swelling and fluid in his lungs, along with chest pain and heart palpitations. Despite these severe conditions, he has been refused transfer to external medical centers.

Ahmadian has faced numerous physical health problems in recent years, none of which have been adequately treated. This neglect has worsened his physical and mental health.

Earlier in June 2024, Ahmadian was sent to the hospital but was returned to Evin Prison before completing his treatment. Similarly, in December 2022, he was sent to a hospital for the first phase of a three-stage surgery for his testicles. However, he was brought back to prison just one day after the surgery without completing the treatment process.

Previously, Ahmadian's lawyer had requested a suspension of his lengthy sentence, citing his deteriorating health. However, with the intervention of the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence in the Medical Commission's decision-making process, this request was rejected. Both the prison’s medical department and the Forensic Medicine Organization have repeatedly stated that Ahmadian cannot endure his sentence due to his health condition and should be treated in medical centers outside of the prison. Nevertheless, Tehran’s Prosecutor Ali Salehi continues to oppose his transfer to a hospital and the suspension of his sentence.

It is also noteworthy that Ahmadian's family had earlier provided a 5 billion toman bail for his release, and five attorneys had taken responsibility for his case. However, officials demanded a higher bail, which the family could not afford.

Motalleb Ahmadian was arrested on October 5, 2010, by the security forces. After spending 230 days in solitary confinement under torture, he was sentenced to 30 years in exile at Minab Prison on charges of "enmity against God" through membership in the Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan. In May 2016, he was transferred to Saqqez Prison.

In two other cases, Ahmadian was also sentenced to pay a fine of 1 million tomans and one year in prison for "illegal border crossing," 9 years in prison and half the full “Wergeldl on the charge of "participating in a murder," and 20 million tomans for "intentional assault and battery."

After these verdicts were issued, Ahmadian was transferred from Sanandaj Central Prison to Evin Prison in September 2018. In 2019, he was transferred to Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj, but on August 2 of that same year, after that prison was evacuated, he was returned to Evin Prison along with at least seven other political prisoners. He is currently serving his sentence in Ward 4 of Evin Prison.
