Mostafa Nemati, Kurdish Journalist From Abdanan, Sentenced to 64 Months in Prison in Tehran

Mostafa Nemati, a Kurdish journalist and economist from Abdanan, Ilam Province, has been sentenced by the Iranian judiciary to a total of 5 years and 4 months of imprisonment.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Mostafa Nemati, 48 years old, was recently sentenced by a Tehran criminal court to 8 months in prison for "propaganda against the regime," 40 months for "insulting religious sanctities," and 16 months for "spreading false information," along with a fine of 15 million tomans, resulting in a total sentence of 64 months.

With the application of the law on the consolidation of sentences, the highest punishment—equivalent to 40 months of imprisonment—has been declared enforceable for Mostafa Nemati.

According to informed sources, in recent days, Mostafa Nemati has been summoned to Evin Prison by Branch 1 of the Criminal Court's Enforcement Office in Tehran to serve his sentence.

Mostafa Nemati is an economist and a columnist for the “Tejarat-e Farda” newspaper, and he is also a member of mountaineering groups in Abdanan.

Additionally, Morteza Nemati, a university professor and the brother of this journalist, was barred from teaching last year due to his involvement with the “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement.
