Kamran Sakhtemangar, a Kurdish labor activist, former political prisoner from Sanandaj (Sine), and one of the detainees from the “Woman, Life, Freedom” (Jin, Jiyan, Azadi) movement, has been sentenced to three months in prison and a fine of 30 million tomans by the Iranian judiciary.
According to information received by Hengaw, Branch 2 of the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court convicted Sakhtemangar on charges of “propaganda against the state.” The verdict was officially communicated to him on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
His trial was held on Tuesday, July 9, 2025, in Branch 2 of the Revolutionary Court, following an earlier interrogation on May 18, 2025, at the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office in Sanandaj.
During the proceedings, Sakhtemangar was acquitted of charges of “membership in Komala,” “assembly and collusion,” and “insulting the Supreme Leader,” with only the “propaganda against the state” charge proceeding to sentencing.
Sakhtemangar was previously arrested on February 5, 2025, by intelligence agents on Jami Street in Sanandaj and transferred to Sanandaj Central Prison after interrogation. He was released on bail on March 10, 2025.
Earlier, on November 27, 2023, he was summoned to Branch 4 of the Sanandaj Criminal Enforcement Office, arrested, and transferred to prison to serve a monetary penalty sentence. In that case, he had been sentenced by Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court to three months in prison and a fine for “propaganda against the Islamic Republic,” which was later converted to a 34 million tomans fine.
During the “Woman, Life, Freedom” uprising, Sakhtemangar was arrested on September 29, 2022, and after 149 days in detention, released on February 25, 2023.
Previously, he had also been sentenced to five years in prison on charges of “membership in Komala and propaganda against the state.” This sentence was later reduced to 28 months, and he was released from Sanandaj Central Prison on March 21, 2023.
