A man in Rasht brutally murdered his wife, Matin Tayebikhah Foumani, and another man with a cold weapon. His motive for committing the crime has been declared as the so-called "protection of honor."
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Sunday, September 22, 2024, a 34-year-old woman from Fuman, Gilan Province, named Matin Tayebikhah Foumani, was killed by her husband with multiple stab wounds in their home. A 47-year-old man was also murdered in the same manner at the same location by the perpetrator.
The body of Matin Tayebikhah Foumani, who was the mother of two children, was buried today in the "Chaharbagh" cemetery in her hometown of Fuman. She had been working as a hairdresser in the city of Rasht.
According to the government-run Hamshahri Online website, the 39-year-old suspect, an employee of a hospital in Rasht, fled after committing the murders and was arrested hours later. As with many other femicides, the Iranian government media have cited "family and personal disputes" as the motive behind the crime.
