A young woman in Kermanshah, identified as Seyyedeh Donya Hosseini, was brutally murdered by her father using a bladed weapon. The perpetrator’s motive for the killing has been reported under the pretext of "honor-related."

According to a report received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Monday, February 17, 2025, Seyyedeh Donya Hosseini, a 23-year-old woman from the village of Beriyakhani in Dalahu County and a resident of the Dowlatabad neighborhood of Kermanshah, was stabbed multiple times by her father, Seyyed Yadollah Hosseini, resulting in her death.

A source close to the Hosseini family stated that Donya Hosseini was divorced approximately 40 days ago by her husband on the grounds of an alleged “relationship with another man.” Forty days after her separation, she returned to her family home and was murdered by her father with multiple stab wounds just one day after her arrival.

It is noteworthy that state-affiliated media, in addressing the motive behind this so-called "honor killing", once again used the vague term "family disputes" and reported that the suspect was arrested hours after committing the crime.

The Islamic Republic’s laws not only fail to protect women in cases of femicide under the pretext of honor but also provide leniency to fathers who murder their children, sparing them from the severe punishments typically imposed for homicide. Hengaw warns against the systematic violation of women's rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran, the leniency towards femicide by family members, and the concealed statistics of femicide cases.
