Father kills 17-year-old daughter in Piranshahr under so-called "Honor" pretext
Hengaw: Sunday, January 26, 2025
Kani Abdollahi, a 17-year-old girl from Piranshahr, was killed by her father using a sharp weapon. The motive behind this tragic murder has been described as so-called "honor-related," stemming from her relationship with a boy.
According to a report received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on the evening of Saturday, January 25, 2025, Kani Abdollahi, a resident of the village of Mashkan in Piranshahr County, was severely injured after being stabbed multiple times by her father. Despite being rushed to the hospital, she succumbed to her injuries.
Sources close to the case confirmed that Kani's father is currently in custody. He has admitted that his motive for the murder was rooted in his daughter's relationship with a boy.
Under Article 612 of the Islamic Penal Code (Discretionary Punishments): "Anyone who commits premeditated murder without having a private plaintiff or where the private plaintiff has pardoned or for any other reason does not pursue retaliation, if the act disrupts public order or undermines societal security or if it is feared that the perpetrator or others may repeat such actions, the court shall sentence the perpetrator to imprisonment for three to ten years."
This legal provision has been criticized for enabling leniency toward honor-related murders, particularly when committed by fathers, brothers, or husbands, often leaving the perpetrators relatively immune to significant punishment.
