Hengaw – Tuesday, August 11, 2026

Sanaz Mehrabi Dashtaki, a 15-year-old girl from Marvdasht County, Fars province, was murdered by her uncle in an “honor”-motivated crime after her family opposed her decision to marry the person she loved.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Mehrabi was shot by her uncle in Dashtak village, Marvdasht County, on Thursday, July 30, 2026.

Informed sources said her uncle targeted her with a hunting rifle because she wanted to marry the person she loved despite her family’s opposition. She died from her injuries.

Femicide committed under the pretext of “preserving honor,” along with violence against women and children, directly results from the absence of deterrent laws, weak support structures, systemic misogyny, and the failure of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s legal system to criminalize domestic violence and child marriage.
