Hengaw: Wednesday, October 2, 2024

Sakineh Parvaneh, a Kurdish political prisoner from Quchan, has been denied the right to contact her family for three weeks following her declaration of a hunger strike in Evin Prison, Tehran. She went on a three-day hunger strike in protest of the killing of protesters during the "Woman, Life, Freedom" movement.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Hunan Rights, Sakineh Parvaneh, a Kurdish political prisoner from Quchan in Khorasan Razavi Province, has been prohibited from making calls and receiving visits for the past 18 days in Evin Prison, raising serious concerns among her relatives and family.

Sources state that since September 14, 2024, Sakineh Parvaneh has been denied contact by order of Iranian judicial and security authorities.

On September 13, she announced that on September 14 and 15, she would go on a hunger strike in protest of the killing of protesters during the "Woman, Life, Freedom" movement and in solidarity with the families of victims.

Previously, she also went on a three-day hunger strike on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, in protest of the execution of four Kurdish political prisoners: Vafa Azarbar, Mohsen Mazloum, Pejman Fatehi, and Mohammad Faramarzi.

On Wednesday, April 3, 2024, Sakineh Parvaneh was suddenly transferred from Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad to the women’s ward of Evin Prison in Tehran, coinciding with the anniversary of her arrest.

She was initially arrested on April 3, 2023, after being summoned by the IRGC intelligence in Mashhad and transferred to Ward 5 of Mashhad Prison on April 14.

In early September 2023, without the right to legal representation, she was sentenced to seven years and six months in prison by the First Branch of the Iranian Islamic  Revolutionary Court of Mashhad.

On March 6, 2023, she was arrested in Tehran by Iranian government forces and released four days later. Since about four years ago, IRGC has confiscated all of Sakineh Parvaneh’s identification documents, and despite her release, these documents have not been returned. This has caused her significant difficulties in managing basic life tasks such as renting a house, finding work, and purchasing a mobile SIM card.

On May 17, 2020, Sakineh Parvaneh was sentenced by Branch 26 of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Court of Tehran to five years in prison and a two-year ban from participating in political groups. She was pardoned and released from Evin Prison in Tehran on March 1, 2023.
