Saqqez, Iran: Abdollah Sharifzadeh arrested to serve prison term
Hengaw; Sunday, October 20, 2024
Abdollah Sharifzadeh, a Kurdish individual and a member of the "Halo Mountaineering Group" in Saqqez, has been arrested and transferred to the central prison of this city.
According to a report received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Sunday, October 20, 2024, 30-year-old Abdollah Sharifzadeh, a resident of Saqqez, was arrested after being summoned to the Enforcement Branch of the Revolutionary Court in Saqqez. Subsequently he was transferred to the central prison of Saqqez to serve his 10-month imprisonment sentence.
In August of this year, Sharifzadeh was sentenced in his absence by the First Branch of the Revolutionary Court of Saqqez, presided over by Judge Javad Mostafaei, to 10 months of imprisonment. He was charged with ‘propaganda against the state in favor of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan,’ through his activities on social media.
Hengaw had previously reported that Sharifzadeh's appeal to overturn the verdict was rejected by the Revolutionary Court of Sanandaj. Following the issuance of the verdict, security forces repeatedly raided his home and workplace.
It is worth mentioning that Sharifzadeh was first arrested by security forces in the winter of 2022. After being detained for one day, he was released pending the completion of his legal proceedings.
