Hengaw: Thursday, January 16, 2025
Security forces of Islamic Republic of Iran have prevented the family of Dr. Zakaria (Hersh) Qaderi, a prominent Kurdish scholar, from holding a memorial service in his hometown of Paveh. Dr. Qaderi had left his homeland years ago due to pressure from these same authorities.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, government authorities, in coordination with Mullah Qader Qaderi, the appointed Friday prayer leader of Paveh by Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, blocked the family of Dr. Qaderi from holding a memorial service for him in any mosque in the city.
Dr. Zakaria Qaderi, a renowned researcher and writer, tragically lost his life in a car accident in Germany on Friday, January 10, 2025.
An accomplished scholar in the fields of history and political philosophy, Dr. Qaderi authored the book “Iranian Political Rationality and Kurdish Identity” and important essays such as “Critique of Modernity Discourse in Foucault’s Thought” and “Zoroastrian Political Theology and Its Binary Oppositions.”
A native of Paveh, Dr. Qaderi fled Iran in 2016 after facing increasing pressure from security forces for publishing a critical article on Islam in a local magazine. Following a brief stay in Iraqi Kurdistan, he sought asylum in Germany.
