Authorities detain Kurdish writer Jafar Mokhtarifar in Bukan

Iranian authorities have detained Jafar Mokhtarifar, a prominent Kurdish poet, writer, and cultural activist from Bukan, and transferred him to an undisclosed location.
According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, agents of the Intelligence Office raided Mokhtarifar's workplace in Bukan on the morning of Sunday, June 28, 2026, and arrested him without presenting a warrant.
Hengaw has learned that the forces first raided Mokhtarifar's shop, where they conducted a thorough search before arresting him. The forces then took the writer to his home, searched the property, and confiscated several personal belongings, including his computer, books, and handwritten notes, before transferring him to an undisclosed location.
The Intelligence Office has not disclosed the reasons for Mokhtarifar's detention, any charges against him, or his whereabouts.
