Crackdown on Kurdistan strike intensifies: Detentions in Sanandaj rise to Six

Amjad Garmakhizi and Naeim Dosti, two Kurds from Sanandaj (Sine), labor activists, and members of the anti-execution campaign, were arrested by security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran for participating in the widespread strikes across Kurdistan on January 22, protesting the death sentences of Pakhshan Azizi and Varisheh Moradi. They were transferred to an unknown location.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, Amjad Garmakhizi and Naeim Dosti, both labor activists and members of the anti-execution campaign from Sanandaj, were arrested by security forces in the city without a judicial warrant and taken to an undisclosed location.

Sources indicate that security forces arrested the two individuals, who work in a pastry workshop, due to their participation in the widespread strikes in Sanandaj protesting the issuance and confirmation of the death sentences for Varisheh Moradi and Pakhshan Azizi.

Previously, Hengaw had reported the arrest of four other people in the city: Mohammad Seif Panahi and Sina Rezai, from the shoe sellers sector, who were arrested in front of their shops, and Mohammad Atlasi and Omid Mohammadi, 33, both merchants in the city. All were arrested for participating in the January 22 strikes across Kurdistan.

So far, no detailed information has been made available regarding the reasons for their arrest, the charges against them, their whereabouts, or their fate.
