Female prisoner executed in Sari Central Prison

The death sentence of Mahtab Qazizadeh, a woman from Sari, who had previously been convicted of premeditated murder, has been carried out at Sari Central Prison in Mazandaran Province. She is the second woman to be executed in 2025.

According to a report received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, at dawn on Thursday, February 6, 2025, 47-year-old Mahtab Qazizadeh was executed in Sari Central Prison. She had been transferred to solitary confinement on Tuesday, and on Wednesday, she was granted her final visit with her family.

Sources familiar with the case report that Mahtab Qazizadeh, a mother of two, was arrested four years ago on charges of murdering her husband. She was subsequently sentenced to death by the judicial system of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

As of the time of this report, state-affiliated media, particularly those close to the judiciary, have not published any news regarding this execution.
At least 30 women were executed in Iranian prisons in 2024, according to data recorded by Hengaw.
