Two female prisoners, Mojgan Azarpisheh and Kosar Baghernejad, executed in Urmia Central Prison

The death sentence of two Turkish female prisoners, Mojgan Azarpisheh and Kosar Baghernejad, was carried out in Urmia Central Prison. They had previously been sentenced to death on charges of "premeditated murder" in separate cases.

According to a report received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, at dawn on Sunday, March 16, 2025, Mojgan Azarpisheh, 31, from Urmia, and Kosar Baghernejad, 24, from Naqadeh, were executed in Urmia Central Prison (Darya Prison).

Mojgan Azarpisheh had been arrested six years ago, and Kosar Baghernejad four years ago, in separate cases related to the charge of "premeditated murder" and sentenced to death by the judiciary of Islamic Republic of Iran.

As of the time of this report, the execution of these two prisoners has not been announced by state-affiliated media, particularly those related to the judiciary.

According to data recorded by the Statistics and Documentation Center of Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, at least 30 women were executed in 2024, nine of whom were Turkish.
