Newroz celebrations in Kurdistan: Chalak Pirouzi and Seyfollah Bashbalagh arrested in Marivan and Saqqez

Chalak Pirouzi, a Kurdish man from Marivan, and Seyfollah Bashbalagh, a resident of Saqqez, have been arrested by Iran’s Intelligence Department in connection with Newroz celebrations in Kurdistan and transferred to an undisclosed location.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Saturday, March 22, 2025, 19-year-old Chalak Pirouzi from the village of Sardoush in Marivan County, and 60-year-old Seyfollah Bashbalagh from Saqqez, were detained by intelligence agents.

Informed sources report that their arrests were directly related to their participation in this year’s Newroz festivities in Kurdistan.

Seyfollah Bashbalagh has been formally accused of “disturbing public order,” with the charges stemming from his presence at the Newroz ceremony held in the village of Qalaqun, Saqqez.

As of the time of this report, no information is available regarding the whereabouts or current condition of either individuals.
