Newroz celebrations in Kurdistan: Mahmoud Naderi re-arrested in Sanandaj

Hengaw: Monday, March 24, 2025
Mahmoud Naderi, a Kurdish man from the Kalatrazan District of Sanandaj (Sine), has been re-arrested by IRGC Intelligence forces just two weeks after his temporary release. His renewed detention is linked to his participation in the Newroz celebrations in Kurdistan.
According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Saturday, March 22, 2025, 45-year-old Naderi, a resident of Daaneh Kamangar village, was arrested after being summoned to the IRGC Intelligence office in Sanandaj.
A source close to the Naderi family confirmed that he was transferred to Shahramfar Base, the IRGC Intelligence detention center in Sanandaj.
His re-arrest follows a prior release in mid-March on bail set at 500 million tomans. At that time, Naderi was forced to sign a written pledge not to participate in Newroz-related events. His renewed detention is linked to his participation in these festivities.
Naderi was initially arrested on March 4, 2025, after being summoned by the Intelligence Department. His arrest was tied to the wedding of his son, held at Mehr Hall in Sanandaj, where many attendees wore traditional Kurdish “Khaki” clothing and “Jamana” shawls as a show of solidarity with 58 people in Piranshahr who had faced legal action for similar attire.
Following the wedding, he was summoned several times by security authorities, and his phone was confiscated the day after the event. It was returned to him five days later.
