Sabzevar Court sentences Seyyed Jafar Fashtanaghi to 12 years in prison

Seyyed Jafar Fashtanaghi, a resident of Sabzevar in Razavi Khorasan Province, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Seyyed Jafar Fashtanaghi, a 34-year-old father of seven and resident of Sabzevar, has been sentenced by Branch 1 of the Sabzevar Revolutionary Court to a total of 12 years in prison. He received five years for “membership in groups opposing the regime with the intent to disrupt national security,” two years for “insulting the Leader and the Founder of the Islamic Republic,” and five years for “collaboration with hostile states.”

On Tuesday, April 22, 2025, in a separate part of his case, he was tried by Branch 102 of the Sabzevar Criminal Court II on charges of “spreading falsehoods through electronic systems.” He was recently acquitted of this charge.

The court session for these charges was held in absentia on April 10, 2025.

Seyyed Jafar Fashtanaghi was initially arrested on February 20, 2025, after appearing at Branch 2 of the Sabzevar Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office. He was released a day later after being formally charged and posting bail set at one billion tomans.

Previously, on January 16, 2025, his house had been raided by agents from the Intelligence Department, and some of his and his family’s personal belongings were confiscated. On the same day, he was summoned to the Sabzevar Prosecutor’s Office.
