Hamed Geravand, a prisoner from Kuhdasht in Lorestan Province, has died by suicide at Qeymas Mahidasht Prison in Kermanshah (Kermashan) after his request for leave was rejected and he was allegedly insulted by a judge.

According to a report received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Sunday, April 27, 2025, Hamed Geravand, 34, from the Sar Tarhan area of Kuhdasht County, ingested aluminum phosphide — commonly known as “rice tablet poison” — inside Mahidasht Prison, resulting in his death.

Sources familiar with the case stated that just hours before his suicide, Geravand had met with a deputy prosecutor from the Kermanshah Judiciary, identified as “Eyni,” to request prison leave. His request was denied, and he was reportedly subjected to insulting behavior during the meeting.

Geravand had been arrested several years ago on drug-related charges and was initially sentenced to 26 years in prison, which was later reduced to 13 years.
