Christian convert Mehran Shamloei arrested in Mashhad

Mehran Shamloei, a 44-year-old Christian convert from Tehran, was arrested by security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran at Mashhad Airport and taken to an undisclosed location. He had previously been sentenced to prison on religious and political charges.
According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Shamloei was detained on Thursday, July 3, 2025, while traveling through Mashhad.
In February 2025, Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced him to eight years in prison, a fine of 250 million toman, and a 15-year deprivation of civil rights for “propaganda against Islam.” He was also sentenced to an additional two years and eight months in prison on charges of “membership in anti-government groups.”
Shamloei was initially arrested on November 1, 2024, by agents of the Ministry of Intelligence in Tehran and transferred to Ward 209 of Evin Prison, a facility run by the Intelligence Ministry.
He was later released on bail on December 2, 2024, pending the outcome of judicial proceedings.
