Farhad Baghcheqi, 16-year-old Saeid Baghcheqi sentenced to prison and flogging over January protests

Iranian authorities have sentenced two Kurdish residents of Bojnurd, including 16-year-old Saeid Baghcheqi, in separate cases connected to the January protests. The two received a combined five years and four months in prison, while Farhad Baghcheqi was also sentenced to 74 lashes.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Branch 103 of the Bojnurd Criminal Court sentenced Saeid Baghcheqi, 16, to two years and four months in prison. Iranian security forces arrested him on January 9, 2026, and released him from prison earlier this month.

The same court also sentenced Farhad Baghcheqi in absentia in late July to three years in prison and 74 lashes on charges of "disrupting public order and peace by participating in gatherings," "disobeying government officers while on duty," and "assaulting officers."

Iranian security forces arrested Farhad Baghcheqi on January 8, 2026, during the protests. He spent two months in solitary confinement in the security detention ward of Bojnurd Prison before being released on bail of 5 billion tomans.

Throughout his detention, Baghcheqi was denied access to a lawyer and family visits.
