Hengaw - Wednesday, July 16, 2025

Sasan Chamanara, a Kurdish artist from Ilam and a former detainee of the Woman,  Life, Freedom (Jin, Jiyan, Azadi) movement, has been arrested once again by intelligence agents of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and transferred to an undisclosed location. He is reportedly facing a newly fabricated case.

According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on the afternoon of Wednesday, July 16, 2025, Chamanara was detained in Ilam by IRGC intelligence forces.

Javad Chamanara, his brother, wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) account:
“Sasan received a summons from the Ilam prosecutor’s office two days ago, accusing him of unauthorized access to data, computer systems, or telecommunications networks.”

Chamanara had appointed a lawyer to defend himself and was on his way to meet with them when he was apprehended by nine plainclothes agents.

In March 2024, Sasan Chamanara was sentenced by Branch 1 of the Ilam Revolutionary Court to three months in prison, accounting for time already served, and fined 20 million tomans on charges of “propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

It is also noteworthy that on January 17, 2024, he was arrested at his home for the second time by Ministry of Intelligence forces. He was later released on bail pending the outcome of legal proceedings.

Chamanara was initially arrested on October 7, 2022, during the Woman, Life,  Freedom movement, by IRGC intelligence agents. He was later sentenced to five years in prison by Branch 29 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Seyed Ali Mazloum.
