Researcher and child labor activist Elham Salehi re-arrested in Tehran

Elham Salehi, a civil activist and researcher specializing in child labor, has been re-arrested by security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Tehran and transferred to an undisclosed location.

According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Salehi, 37, was arrested at her private residence in Tehran on Saturday, August 2, 2025.

A few days after her detention, she confirmed her arrest but did not disclose her place of confinement. She stated that she is in good health.

In December 2024, Salehi was sentenced to six months of discretionary imprisonment and fined 20 million tomans on charges of “spreading false information,” “disturbing public opinion by insulting Ebrahim Raisi,” and “propaganda against the state.” The sentence was suspended for five years.

The case was opened in response to her public reaction to the death of Ebrahim Raisi.

Prior to this, security forces had raided her home, conducted a full search, and confiscated several of her personal belongings.
