Iran executes political prisoner Mehran Bahramian amid anniversary of Woman, Life, Freedom

Hengaw – Saturday, September 6, 2025
Iran executed political prisoner Mehran Bahramian, a resident of Semirom in Isfahan Province and one of those arrested during the Woman, Life, Freedom (Jin, Jian, Azadi) movement, in Dastgerd Prison, Isfahan, on the eve of the movement’s third anniversary. His brother, Fazel Bahramian, also faces imminent execution.
According to information obtained by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, at dawn on Saturday, September 6, 2025, political detainee Mehran Bahramian was executed in Dastgerd Prison.
Mizan News Agency, the official outlet of Iran’s judiciary, confirmed the execution, stating that Bahramian had been arrested and sentenced to death on charges of killing a government agent in the city of Semirom.
However, Bahramian had previously been released on bail and was unexpectedly rearrested on Thursday, July 30, 2025, when security forces raided his family home. He was subsequently transferred to Dastgerd Prison.
Hengaw had earlier warned that the sudden rearrest of these four men had raised serious concerns about the imminent implementation of death sentences against Fazel and Mehran Bahramian.
Despite the absence of conclusive evidence from surveillance cameras across Semirom to establish his involvement in the alleged crime, the death sentence against Mehran Bahramian was carried out.
Bahramian was initially detained during the Woman, Life, Freedom movement in 2022. His brother Fazel Bahramian was later sentenced to death, while Younes Bahramian and Dariush Saedi each received 16-year prison terms.
These sentences were upheld in February 2024 by the Semirom Appeals Court, presided over by Judge Tavakoli. The four men were temporarily released on bail in February 2025.
Their arrests were linked to participation in a memorial ceremony for Ali Abbasi, Morad Bahramian, and Moslem Hoshangi, who had been killed during the Woman, Life, Freedom movement. During the ceremony, a Basij member named Mohsen Rezaei was also killed.
Fazel Bahramian was first arrested on December 31, 2022, when security forces stormed his home. Shortly afterward, his brother Mehran was also detained. Both were transferred to the IRGC Intelligence detention center and later to Ward A of Dastgerd Prison, where they were subjected to severe physical and psychological torture until March 18, 2023.
In February 2024, following the issuance of heavy sentences against these citizens, shopkeepers and traders in Semirom staged a strike demanding the immediate cancellation of the execution orders for the two political prisoners.
