Amir Amiri, a Kurdish prisoner from Sahneh, Kermanshah Province, died under suspicious circumstances in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj after being denied medical attention. He had been sentenced to death on drug-related charges.
According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, on Thursday, August 28, 2025, Amiri, 40, died in Ghezel Hesar Prison for reasons that remain unclear.
A source close to the family told Hengaw that Amiri had previously informed them in a phone call that he had requested medical treatment. Three days later, prison authorities called the family to inform them of his death. During that three-day period, Amiri had no further contact with his relatives, raising serious questions about the cause of his death.
Amir Amiri had been arrested two years ago on drug-related charges and sentenced to death by the Iranian judiciary.
