Inmate dies in Ghezel Hesar Prison after being denied medical treatment

Aliyar Havasizadeh, a 40-year-old Kurdish prisoner from Damavand, Tehran Province, died in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj after prison officials denied him transfer to a medical facility despite his deteriorating health.

According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the incident occurred on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.

A source told Hengaw that Havasizadeh, who had developed a severe pulmonary illness, repeatedly requested medical attention, but his appeals were ignored by prison authorities.

Havasizadeh had been serving a sentence on drug-related charges, with approximately two and a half years remaining in his term at the time of his death.
