Hengaw – Thursday, September 18, 2025

Iranian authorities have executed two Turkish prisoners, including a woman, in Tabriz Central Prison. They were identified as Zahra Fotouhi, 52, and Morteza Shirkhani, 40, both from Tabriz. The two had been convicted in separate cases of premeditated murder and sentenced to death by Iran’s judiciary.

Hengaw Organization for Human Rights has learned that Fotouhi and Shirkhani were executed at dawn on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, in Tabriz Central Prison.

Sources familiar with the cases said Fotouhi was arrested five years ago for killing her former husband after he allegedly harassed her and was later sentenced to death for murder under the principle of retribution (qisas).

Shirkhani was arrested four years ago on charges of murdering a friend in a financial dispute and was subsequently sentenced to death.

State-run media, including judiciary-affiliated outlets, have not reported the executions.
