Hengaw – Sunday, November 2, 2025

Kurdish religious prisoner Loqman Alizadeh, currently held in Ghezel Hesar Prison, is experiencing severe health deterioration due to prolonged denial of medical treatment, following torture and ill-treatment during detention. He has spent more than 800 days in Iranian custody across multiple facilities, during which his medical condition has become critical.

According to information obtained by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the 36-year-old has developed kidney and intestinal infections, a heart condition, and a fractured shoulder. He previously underwent surgery in Evin Prison due to severe health complications but did not fully recover and urgently requires further intervention. Despite his critical condition, authorities continue to deny him access to adequate medical care.

A source familiar with the case stated that Alizadeh developed a severe intestinal infection and cardiac complications as a result of physical torture and psychological pressure during interrogation. Since his transfer to Ghezel Hesar, prison and judicial authorities have obstructed his transfer to outside medical facilities despite repeated medical recommendations.

The source added that Alizadeh recently collapsed due to worsening health and suffered a shoulder fracture. Responsibility for his treatment has been shifted between prison and judicial authorities, resulting in ongoing medical neglect and lack of action.

Alizadeh was arrested in Bukan on 4 September 2023 by security forces and transferred to the Urmia Intelligence Office, where he was held in solitary confinement. During this period, he was subjected to physical and psychological torture and coerced into giving a forced confession.

After several months in a security detention facility in Urmia, he was transferred to Evin Prison and subsequently to Ghezel Hesar. More than two years after his arrest, his pre-trial detention order remains in place, and no credible evidence has been presented against him. The charges remain unproven.

A source close to the family reported that Alizadeh has been threatened with continued denial of medical treatment unless he agrees to provide a forced confession.
