Death-row prisoner Ali Mirza Niazi dies by suicide in Mashhad’s Vakilabad Prison

A death-row prisoner identified as Ali Mirza Niazi ended his life by ingesting pills while being held in Vakilabad Prison, Mashhad.

According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Niazi, aged 39, attempted suicide on Thursday, November 6, 2025, by consuming pills and methadone inside the prison.

Sources informed Hengaw that he was transferred to a hospital following the attempt but passed away later that night.

Niazi had previously been arrested on drug-related charges and sentenced to death by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
