Prisoner dies by suicide in Babol, marking five cases in less than one month

Omid Jahani, a prisoner held in Babol Central Prison in Mazandaran Province, died 24 hours after attempting suicide.

According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Jahani died on Sunday, November 30, 2025, after surviving one day following his suicide attempt, which occurred the previous morning.

Jahani attempted suicide on Saturday, November 29, 2025, by ingesting methadone tablets. He had previously been arrested on the charge of “theft” and was transferred to prison after receiving a custodial sentence.

Based on data recorded by the Statistics and Documentation Center of Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, in less than one month at least five prisoners have ended their lives by suicide in various prisons across Iran.
