Iran’s judiciary has sentenced political prisoner Sajjad Fathi, held in Evin Prison, to five years in prison and additional social penalties for filming the destruction of his own home during the 12-day war between Israel and Iran.
According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Fathi, 39, married and the father of one child, has recently been sentenced by Branch 15 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Abolghasem Salavati. He received a five-year prison sentence on the charge of “propaganda against the Islamic Republic in favour of Israel through filming restricted areas”.
The political prisoner was also handed two years of travel ban, a two-year prohibition on social-media activity and political-party membership, and his mobile phone was confiscated in favour of the state. The sentence has been upheld by the Court of Appeal.
According to informed sources, the court cited a report by the IRGC’s Sarallah Headquarters in Tehran as the primary evidence supporting the charge against Fathi.
This is despite the fact that the individual had only filmed his own residence, which had been destroyed during the war between Israel and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Fathi was beaten by security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran during the war between Israel and Iran, after a missile struck his home. He was arrested while injured, with wounds to his neck, arm and leg.
