Kurdish teacher Kamran Akbari killed during protests in Kermanshah

Kamran Akbari, a Kurdish schoolteacher from Islamabad-e Gharb (Shabad), was shot and killed by Iranian government forces during popular protests in Kermanshah (Kermashan).
According to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Akbari, 45, a teacher in Iran’s public education system and the father of one child, was fatally shot on Thursday, January 8, 2026, during protests in the Elahiyeh district of Kermanshah.
Informed sources reported that Akbari was shot at close range with a military-grade firearm, sustaining a fatal gunshot wound to the abdomen.
