Rebin Moradi, 17, shot dead during protests in Tehran

Rebin Moradi, a 17-year-old Kurdish student, originally from Salas-e Babajani in Kermanshah (Kermashan) province and a resident of Tehran, was killed during popular protests in the capital after being shot directly by Iranian government forces.

According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, Moradi was killed on Thursday, January 8, 2026. He was a member of the Tehran Youth Premier Football League and a youth football player with Saipa Club at the time of his death.

A source familiar with the case told Hengaw that Moradi’s family received confirmation of his death on Monday, after four days without any information about his whereabouts. The source added that the family has not yet been allowed to take possession of his body.

Moradi was an active youth football player and a member of Saipa Club’s youth teams, competing in the Tehran Youth League. He had scored goals for Saipa in league matches and was regarded as one of the promising young talents in Tehran’s youth football scene. Prior to joining Saipa, he had played for other youth teams, including Parsian Javan Ilya Novin, and had competed in official matches organized by the Tehran Province Football Board.

In addition to football, Moradi was a swimming champion in his age category and was also active in other sports, including wrestling, highlighting his multi-disciplinary athletic ability.
