Iran arrests civil activist and former political prisoner Leila Mirghafari in Tehran

Iranian government forces have arrested Leila Mirghafari, a civil activist and former political prisoner residing in Tehran, and transferred her to an undisclosed location.

Hengaw Organization for Human Rights has learned that government forces raided Mirghafari’s residence in Tehran on the evening of Sunday, March 15, 2026, and arrested her.

No clear information has been released regarding the arresting authority, the reasons for her detention, or the charges against her. Efforts by her family to obtain information about her whereabouts and condition have so far been unsuccessful.

Mirghafari has previously been arrested and convicted by the Iranian judiciary in connection with her civil activism.
