Kurdish mountaineer Ebrahim Karimpour detained and temporarily released in Saqqez

Security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran detained Ebrahim Karimpour, a Kurdish individual from Saqqez and a member of the local mountaineering group “Halo” (Eagle), and released him several hours later.

According to information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, agents of the Intelligence Department detained Karimpour on Thursday, March 26, 2026, in Saqqez.

Informed sources stated that he was released a few hours after his detention on a temporary basis and was warned not to leave Saqqez. Security forces also confiscated his mobile phone.

Authorities have not disclosed the reasons for his detention or any charges against him.
