Justice-seeking mother Betoul Gerami transferred from hospital to Gonabad prison
Hengaw – Sunday, March 29, 2026
Iranian authorities have transferred Betoul Gerami, a justice-seeking mother from Gonabad, from hospital to Gonabad Central Prison before she completed treatment for serious injuries caused by beatings by government forces.
Information received by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights indicates that she was discharged from hospital on Saturday, March 28, 2026, despite her ongoing medical treatment, and transferred to the city’s central prison.
Informed sources state that Gerami had previously been severely beaten during a violent raid by Basij forces and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) during a memorial gathering at her son’s grave ahead of Nowruz, the new year celebrated in Iran and the wider region. She lost consciousness and suffered a shoulder fracture during the assault and was transferred directly from her hospital bed to detention.
Her transfer to prison took place while her general condition was reported to be serious due to the injuries she sustained, and she has been denied full access to necessary medical care.
Her 22-year-old son, Sajjad Samadi, was wounded by direct fire from Iranian government forces during protests in Gonabad last year. Due to fear of arrest and his inability to seek medical treatment, he later died from severe blood loss.
